GALLERIES

Although Newtown is known to be home of joburg's biggest Events. It is important to need to realize that there is more to Newtown than Events and The night life,it has so much more to offer!

With every experience you learn something new, most people including myself don't know that newtown actually has four galleries and each gallery was built for various objectives.How's about we visit these galleries and view the different art,design and photography;

AFRONOVA CONTEMPORARY ART GALLERY
Afronova presents exhibitions of modern and contemporary art from the African continent and represent artists. The gallery has a specialized bookshop with a catalogue of local and international publications on the art of the continent.Afronova is a Pan African gallery for modern and contemporary art created by Henri Vergon. The elegant gallery space is located in the heart of Johannesburg, Newtown, and contributes to the cosmopolitan landscape of the city.

The following apintings were done by a malawian woman by the name of Billie Zangewa, she has incorporated how africans in different counries live.

THE second gallery is ROOKE GALLERY

Working only with a select few artists, the Rooke Gallery aims to further the appreciation of contemporary art. Based in Newtown South Africa, the gallery hosts a strictly limited number of exhibitions per year, all of which are designed to appeal to a growing art public with an appreciation for the avant-garde.

Krynauw's source material populates his studio like debris after a natural catastrophe; paint is everywhere.

This residue is exploited by Krynauw, taking the violence of his mediated material and translating that into a source of original meaning; a portrait.

THE third gallery based in Newtown is ARTIST PROOF STUDIO

Artist Proof Studio is a quality Art Education Centre that specializes in printmaking through a variety of diverse partnerships with creative young artists, established professional artists, community groups, patrons and funders.

NOTE FROM ME: For all my art and photography fanatics I hope this post as gotten you all excited and eager to visit the different galleries based in newtown. Come and view inspirational talents of art,design and photography and the best about these is that you can also become a student,you can learn more and your talents can also be explored while doing this.

As a school of photography, a gallery, and a project space, the Market Photo Workshop has played a pivotal role in the training of South Africa’s photographers, ensuring that visual literacy reaches neglected and marginalized parts of our society. Since it was founded in 1989, by world-renowned photographer David Goldblatt, the Photo Workshop has been an agent of change and representation, informing photographers, visual artists, educators, students, and broader communities of trends, issues, and debates in photography and visual culture

  5. Art is trully an expression of one's inner emotion, the essence of one's exsistance. Funny thing is I have taken a girl out on a date before and trust you me it was'nt as pleasant for her as it was for me...Taking that into mind, what can be done to make art work more appealing to those who are'nt interested in it, people like Phemelo Dibodu for example? Because The Department of Arts and Culture has invested a lot in order to have a tangeble outcome within the long run as far as taxes are concerned!MokD
